New at the drugstore: CIRCA Beauty

CIRCA is a new cosmetics line from Maesa and actress Eva Mendes that delivers professional-quality products at an affordable price. I’ve tested some of the collection, available at Walgreens. Here’s my review:

Color Balance Liquid Foundation, $15
• Medium-to-full coverage
• Thick consistency
• Includes a pump
• Easily bendable
• Available in 10 shades
I was impressed with the finish on this foundation, but it’s not the best for very dry skin. It looked a bit cakey on me. It’s also pricey for a drugstore foundation, but it does come with a pump, which keeps everything mess-free and sanitary. I tried shade 02 — a great match for my light/medium skin tone. I applied it using a damp sponge.

Picture Perfect Powder Blush in 02 Flamenco Beach, $12
• Very pigmented
• Blends easily
• Matte (no shine)
This gorgeous coral blush, prefect for spring and summer, easily became my favorite from the collection. I used a stippling brush to apply it to my cheeks for a great color payoff. I will use this often.

Picture Perfect Powder Bronzer in 02 Amalfi Coast, $12
• Very pigmented
• Blends easily
• Matte (no shine)
This is my second favorite. It’s hard to find bronzers that can be used as contour powders at the drugstore. This is a game-changer! The color is not too warm or too cool, and the matte formula blends seamlessly. Worth the splurge!

Color Focus Eye Shadow Palette in 05 Provocateur, $12
• Highly pigmented and true to color
• Powdery
I find myself reaching most for the matte brown shadow. It is very pigmented, but there is a lot of fallout. Tap your brush gently before applying to the eyes or the product will get everywhere. I was not wowed by this palette. There are similar products already at the drugstore.

Lustrous Shine Lip Polish in 01 Lovely Lace, $10
• Creamy formula
• Not sticky
• Great pigmentation
• Enriched with avocado oil
This color is beautiful — I would describe it as a coral/nude/pink — and the product is highly pigmented and creamy. Use it alone or over lipstick for extra shine. It has a slight scent, which I don’t like, but it doesn’t cling to the lips.

Color Absolute Velvet Luxe Lipstick in 01 Natalie, $10
• Light formula
• Creamy
• Contains jojoba and sweet almond oil
The CIRCA lipsticks are very creamy and feel moisturizing. There isn’t a lot of shine to them, which is good. I usually prefer matte lipsticks. There’s a fragrance, and I’m not a fan of that, but it’s a personal preference.
