Should you use a toner?

There are so many toners out there, it’s hard to find the right one for you. What I look for is a toner that will cleanse and hydrate. It should be used after cleansing the face at night and before applying a moisturizer. I also use it in the morning instead of washing my face. Just put toner on a cotton pad and sweep across your skin.

Toner gets rid of the makeup and dirt that’s on your face even after cleansing. Avoid formulas that contain alcohol or high levels of fragrance, which can irritate skin.

Here are my three favorites:

1. Simple Micellar Facial Cleanser Water: The best and most affordable drugstore toner I have ever tried. It does exactly what it says — cleanses, removes makeup and hydrates. It is gentle enough for all skin types.

2. Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Turbo Line Smoothing Toning Lotion: This does everything that a toner should, plus it targets deep wrinkles and fine lines. It contains 18 antiaging properties, including vitamins A, C and E. Has a very cooling and hydrating effect. Great for all skin types.

3. First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads: A perfect, travel-friendly, premoistened toner pad. Sweep across face and neck to exfoliate, tone and brighten. I see a difference in my skin when I use this product. It’s great for oily skin but can be used for any skin type.
